I INTERMEDIATE GRADE. *ha sixth round of Inter-club intermediate trade matches resulted In wins for Aotea, Hurt, Petono Central, and P.W.M.C. There was a slight increase in tho standard of mrfrksmanshtp this round, but the average is still'below last year's mean average. Tho 56 teamsmen aggregated 3751 points, an average of, 06.98. Aotea achieved the highest team score, 477, which, equal with Hutt;s performance, is the best team score of tho season. Aotea and Harbour Board, wltli 951, made tho ■best, combined team score of the season, merely two points fewer than the record score. Aotea and Petone Central improved on previous scores by 5 and 3 points respectively. There were 35 scores esscedln* «6—four .0 s, eleven 69's, fourteen 68's, and six 67's. There we 12 below 66. ' There was a marked diminution in the standards of marksmanship, the average In this round being much below the mean average of last year.- The 84 tcamsmen aggregated 5464 points, an average of 63.01). The Wellington score was 2691, and Hutt .Valley 2774. Butt achieved tbo highest team score, 470, and, together with P.W.M.C, the best combined team score, 033. Brooklyn 2, Hutt, and Petone Ladies improved on previous scores by 10, 1,, and S points respectively. Tbere were 20 scores below 64 and 34 above. Mr 3 i Staples, president, said that one of the objects of the association was to advancertne spott and make it more attractive to visiting competitors. Tho more stiffly handicapped members of tho club have not yet shown their worth. Tho B team meet 3 Port Nicholson next Monday, and Intermediate tho Harbour Board team on Wednosday week. ONSLOW CLUB. Last Monday tho B team shot against Port Nicholson Ladles. Tho homo team won with *an average of 66.6, the best so far in interclub shooting. , Jeffs made his first possible. The team is capable of a far belter average. Tho Weeds Shlold is at an interesting stago at present, four' or five members still being in the hunt, with three shoots to co. Mrs. Feltcs, juu., put up the best shoot for the ladles last week with a 60. An invitation is extended to all clubs m Wellington to a danco In the Ngalo Town Hall on August 31. A special bus has been arranged. PETONE CENTRAL CLUB. The second series of friendly shoots between tho Petone Central Miniature Rifle Club and the Mayor, councillors, and executive officers of the Fetone Borough Council took placo on Thursday evening. Tho guests entered into tho proceedings with much enthusiasm.. As the evening progressed, merriment increased. The company was' divided into two teams, one captained by last years-- council champion (Mr.1 Scholcftold) ■ and the other by Mr. Gough. Although some of the members had not handled a rifle since tho last shoot with tho club, the marksmanship was excellent, the result being a win for Mr. Scholefleld's team with a total of 631-t0'523. Mr. Firth, Town Clerk, proved this year's champion, with a 4!) out of the' possible of 50. A quoits and darts competition was also held. At supper the usual complimentary speeches were made. A Jolly time ended with the singing of "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows." PORT NICHOLSON LADIES. Very keen competition was shown for the trophies for July. Miss A. Halliday gained first place and Mrs. McKenzie second. Mrs. McKenzie is a-iflrst-year shot. SOUTH CLUB. The Morris tup competition for the four months ended July (possible 910) was won by A. MaeDowall with 900. P. W. Congrcve was runner-up with 898. Tho Franklyri Shield competition for June and July (possible 420) provod very interesting. A. MaeDowall (4ir>), I\ W. Congreve (415), C. Nybcrg (414, 3—41:"). and R. Boddy (412, 3—115) tied. On the first shoot-off the scores were:—X, Boddy, 68, 1—69; L.-Nybcrg, 68, 1—69; A. MaeDowall, 68; P. Congreve, 67. Boddy and Nyberg have still to shoot off. The A grado July .competition .resulted in a tlo between C. Nybcrg (208). and ». Boddy (207, 1—208). On shooting off another tie resulted, 69 each, und a further three shots was again a tie. On the fourth shot Boddy won. The B grade July competition- also resulted in a tie—R. Churchcr, 202, 4—206; t. Costello, 200, 6—206; ,T. lifgby, 198, 8—206; and S. Scott, IS2, 1-1—206. On the first shoot-off lifgby and Scott were eliminated, leaving Churcher and Costello still to shoot for first'and second trophy. For the ;hlghest.rifle score in B grade Churcher takes the ''News of the World" Certificate and also the club's silver badge for the highest rifle score by a junior.
