Ilondren headed the- individual butting list in the latest series of county cricket championship, this time with' a score of 222 not out. lie was closely followed by It. E. S. Wyatt, who was unbeaten with IS7. In spite of Henclron's big score, Middlesex were beaten decisively by Essex, who with a 10----vuns.lead on tho first innings dismissed Middlesex in the .second innings for under 100 runs. AVyatt's contribution gave 'Warwickshire a heavy total by which a big win was scored. Hammond and Walker were others to make centuries. In tho bowliug department Bowes was to the fore and assisted Yorkshire greatly in getting another full win. Tho most surprising result was the defeat of . Sussex by Leicestershire. Geary played a big part in the dismissal of Sussex cheaply in each innings. An interesting result was Surrey's win on the first innings by one ruu from Northamptonshire. The results are:— Surrey v. Northamptonshire, at the Oval.—Surrey'2s7 (Jupp six for 58) and 229; Northamptonshire 256 and 139 for seven wickets. Surrey won on the' first innings. Essex v. Middlesex, at Lcyton.— Middlesex 3(38 (Hendren 222.n0t out) and 97 (Smith four for .38); Essex 378 (Cutmore 83, Nichols 81) and 91 for three wickets. Essex Avon by seven wickets. Worcestershire v. Warwickshire, at Dudley.—Warwickshire 524 for seven wickets, declared (Wyatt 187 iiot out, Bates 81); Worcestershire 185 (Paine seven for 50) and 217 (Quaife 88). Warwickshire won by an innings and 122 runs, Leicestershire v. Sussex, at Asliby-de-"la-Zouch. —Sussex 106 (Geary four for 20) and 72 (Geary four for 26); Leicestershire 145 and 38 for four wickets (James; Laugridge four for 12). Leicestershire won by six wickets. Lancashire v. Gloucestershire, at' Manchester. —Lancashire 262; Gloucestershire 234 (Hammond 120)! Lancashire won on the first innings. Nottinghamshire v. Somerset, at Not-, tingham.—Nottinghamshire 402 for eight wickets, declared (Walker 127) and 89 for no wickets; Somerset 242 arid 248. Nottinghamshire won by ten wickets. Yorkshire v. Glamorgan, at Scarborough.—Yorkshire 308 (Mitchell 62) and 4 for no wickets; Glamorgan 157 (Bowes seven for 39) and 154. Yorkshire won by ten wickets.
