A METEOR

Sir, —Uccontly through the rointet>r of jour columns, and leaders of your paper, wo were, enabled to undertake an investigation o£ ft blight meteor which fell over the south-eastern..portion of' the North Island. ' Once more_ a report has been • received of a brilliant meteor which, despite the bright moonlight, illuminated the house tops. This object wag observed at about 30 minutes after midnight, on the night of August'l 2, Wednesday. Its position is described as -being 2 degrees west of Acheniav and fallinji ilownwaid in a ver-tic-al path. -The trail was a brilliant red, edged with blue white, and the main body, or "head." was comet-shaped. The duration of flight was from 3 to 4 seconds and the length or" (.lie [nth nciuly '-'0 degrees. If any of your readers observed this object and were able to note its path approximately with reference to streets," j liousps>.' monuments, prominent buildings j or hills, we should be giateful lor misinformation that can be given.
