PROPOSED CONTEST

Though there are inter-club contests between the throp major golf clubs of the Wellington district, and between the minoriclubs, there is at present no common battleground between members of the major and , minor clubs. The Watt Cup contests have spurred up the minor clubs a good deal, and havo greatly 'increased" their standard of play, at any rate' amongst the leading half of teams. A trophy has been offered for competition between major and minor teams by a Wellington sportsman on rather novel lines. Five members of 'each '.of;.,tho three major clubs, and thrco, ■members of each of tho live Watt Cup clubs, it is suggested should play annually in teams of fifteen, the idea Being to give the front-rank players of the smaller clubs an opportunity of playing in match ,play .'tigainst-'thG'bog't 'golfers- .in., the district. A major v. ininor inter-club match on the lines suggested once a year would not, however, complicate matters much nipre. If tho major clubs take kindly to tho proposal, matters of vouuo and dates could readily be-settled.
