"THE NAUGHTY ELF"
, (Original.) : . - Once upon a time there lived is Fairyland a little elf whose name was Tipit. He was a very .bad- little elf, , who was always up to mischief. One day this bad little elf poured water down all the chimneys in Fairy*, land. The fires spluttered and smoked» and the poor little people thought it was a wicked witch trying to gel down their chimneys. The first thing that they did wal to run to the King and tell him that a witch was trying to get down their chimneys. But one little Fairy called Kosebud had been watching Tipit all the time. So she went to the King and told him that it wag naughty Tipit who1 had been doing all the mischief. The King then sent for Tipit and told him that he had done so much mischief that he must go (o (he Land of Humaa Beings to paint the leaves and flowers". Tipit is still painting the leaves and flowers', though he is allowed' to go back to Fairyland for half the year. So that is why we have six months of Autumn and Summer, iihon all the flowers and leaves are <o beautiful, and three months of Winter when Tipit lias gone back to Fairyland for his well-earned rest.
