The pearwood carving over the fireplace was probably made for the 1695 building and is the work of Grinling Gibbons or one of his It was transferred to the present room in 1725., The nautical instruments represented in the carving are those in general use in the Navy in the 16th and 17th "centuries, and some are tho only contemporary facsimile models now in existance. 'The wind-dial -to be seen is older than the room, and made between 1707 and 1714; probably with the carving. removed from the former Admiralty building. The clock was made about 1697 for the former Admiralty building. The floral decorations' in all the rooms were liberal in quantity and effective in colouring. Mr. and Mrs. Forbes, and Mr. and Mrs. Masters saw a good many people whom they knew.
