WALTZING COMPETITION

Over 200 dancers, mostly in fancy dress, attended the first annual ball of the "Good-Evening" Old' Time Dance Club at the Taia Hall, Kilbirnie.' Souvenir programmes were presented to each patron on entering the beautifully decorated hall resplendent with multi-coloured balloons and streamers. The final of the New Zealand waltzing championships provided an interesting contest, and was closely watched by everybody. The judges, Miss Christie and Mr. Edwards, placed the winners as follows:—-First 'and champion couple, Mr. Trilford and,partner; second,. Mr. Rathbqne and partner; third, Mr. Driver and'partner.' Two lady competitors, who received a round of applause, gave an excellent ■ exhibition , but could not be placed by the judges owing to championship rules. A' consolation prize was awarded to them. A.'challenge on behalf of Mr.Rowe, the North Island champion, was received^ the contest to be held at a later date in the Taia Hall. ' . . .. The .fancy dress prizes were awarded to "Eastern Costume," ''A Clown," and "Mickey, the Mouse," and poster prizes to "Black and White Whisky" and "Swan Bacon." .
