St. Jude's Queen Carnival.

The crowning of Miss Bobbie HopeGibbons, the successful candidate in the recent queen carnival, will be eon» ducted by Mr. B. A. Wright, M.P., itt the Taia Hall, Kilbirnie, on Monday; next. A musical programme has beea arranged, and a good evening's entertainment is guaranteed. Items will b» rendered by leading Wellington artists. Women Church Officials. All the officers of the parish church of Orton, near Kettering, Northamptonshire, are women. Bogers presided over- a. very large gathering' of members of the Upper Hutt Women's Institute recently. Eleven new members were welcomed. Community singing was enjoyed, and two interesting demonstrations given—one of the making of seagrass stools, by Mrs. Kitson, and tho other, the relining of a coat, by Mrs. John. A competition for the best article made from a felt hat resulted ia many very artistic things being entered. The winners were Mrs. Wale, first and second, and Mrs. Williams, third. A dainty tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames McHattie, I. Wilkie, Morley, Brizzle, W. Gorric, and E. Harper.' •-■■ Flirnmerton W.C.T.U. The riimmerton branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union held its first meeting, on Thursday with, a very good attendance. Mrs. Ashworth • conducted the devotions, and Mrs. Hooper (president) was in the chair. Arrangements were made for a child- : ren's afternoon, to be held at the end . of tho month, when there will be aa address from a speaker from town, and musical and elocutionary items followed b.y refreshments. A public evening meeting was also decided upon, the date • and arrangements being left in the hands of the officers. Two new mem- ' bers were received.
