FOUND GUILTY
FAILURE TO ACCOUNT
COMPANY DIRECTOR CASE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 4. The trial of James Mihvard Houston, company director, aged 44, on charges of fraudulently failing to account for money, and of theft, was con. eluded in the Supreme Court. There, were sepaiate counts in tho indictment to the number of G4, chiefly alleging failuro to account. The jury found tho accused guilty on all the first 45 counts and on nine others. On six they acquitted him. The first 413 counts were charges of receiving sums of money upon terms requiring him to account for them to John Burn's and Co., Ltd., and of having fraudulently omitted to do so. The other charges on which he was found guilty were of thefts from Hobart Borkel, Limited, failure to cuter certain items in the books of the company with intent to defraud, and as an officer of the company making a false statement of stock with intent to deceive a creditor. The jury recommended mercy, considering that tho defalcations should have been discovered earlier. The prisoner was remanded for sentence.
