ACCUSED ACQUITTED
SUBMISSION BY COUNSEL
There was a rather sudden ending t<s the trial in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon of William Gunn on a charga of stealing £15, the property of the Waingaiva Freezing Workers' Union. At the conclusion of the case for the Crown, an outline of which was given in yester* day's "Post," Mr. X., Pi .McCarthy, coun* sel for the accused,, submitted that ther« was no case to answer/and his contention was upheld.. ■ -
Mr. Justice Reed said lie ..thought it •was a case merely of suspicion. His Honour asked the: jury what they.thought about the matter, and the jury without re« tiring returned a verdict o£ not guilty. His Honour ordered Gunn's discharge!
In recognition of the generous servica given by Hr. 0. Silbery, of Petone, to various organisations of value to the community, he nnd Mrs. Silbery are being entertained at a social evening on August 2 by the members of these bodies.
