A CHANGE PROBABLE

Although an anticyclone now covers New Zealand, the cyclone Responsible for the recent heavy rains .in New South Wales is likely to affect tho Dominion^ weather adversely soon. The forecast. issued at noon today is for light to moderate and variable . winds and for practically general fair to fino weather at first. But northerly or north-westerly winds will gradually set in and freshen, and unsettled weather, developing in- western districts after about twenty-four hours, will become more general. ■ Milder tern» peraturcs may be expected, together with fogs in places.

Barometers arc now very high "over tho whole of tho New Zealand area, the centre of the anticyclone lying to the cast of Cook Strait. The southerly winds have moderated generally since last night, except at East Cape, where a gale was reported as blowing* this morning. At 9 a.m. today northerly winds were in evidence along tho east coast of the South Island and in far southern districts. Although temperatures yesterday were very cold, the weather in most districts was fair to fine. A few isolated southerly showers, however, fell along,the East Coast of the North Island. -There were many inland frosts last night, and somo in the South Island were severe.
