BIG INCREASE AT ASCOT

Ascot's all-electric \ supeivtqtitfisator, claimed to be the most modern aiid to-date mechanical tote in the world, broke its own . record at this year's meeting with;a turnover of £298.891 16s.
The in the' popularity, of- the machine; is indicated by the following comparisons -for three years:—l93l, £227,700; 1932, £209.5G0; and 1933, £298,891. ■
During the four days of the meeting the total amount awarded in prize money was ■ £70,300.
Lord Astor, who won races with Betty, Canon' Law, and C'riss Cross, and shared a. prize'with Mannamead, was the most successful owner. His winnings exceeded £10,000. ' .-■-..
On the other hand, the Aga Khan, who headed the Ascot winning owners last year with"-£9350, this year failed to win a race. M. Beary, his jockey, was suspended for the meeting owing to an accident on the first day whereby Steve Donoghue was thrown when the tapes went up, and had tp be taken to hospital in an ambulance. Beary was riding the Aga Khan's Shamsuddin in the Prince of Wales's Stakes. .
Fred Darling usually carries away a number of Ascot events for his Beckhanipton patrons, aud the stable secured four races of the value of more than £8000.
J. Lawson (Manton) was responsible for Lord Astor's winners, and for Mr. W. M. G. Singer's Fur Tor, stakes won by the stable amounting to £12,435.. A good second to Lawson, among the trainers was Jack Jarvis, who won four races, including the Gold Cup, of the value of more than £11,000 for his patrons. Gordon Richards and R. Dick, each with five successes, headed the list of winning jockeys at -the meeting. H. Wragg, T. Weston, and C. Buckham each had three firsts.
The stock of. the deceased stallion Colorado proved the most successful, three of his offspring winning £7025. Blandford was next with £51.85, and the veteran Son-in-Law fourth with £4485 behind his son, Foxlaw. .
