THE WEEK'S WORK

VEGETABLE GARDEN,

The persistent wet weather is delaying all garden work. Working the ground while it is saturated with water does more harm than good. As soon as conditions are favourable efforts should be made to overtake the work which has been held up. In spite of the continued wet weather the soil is getting a considerable amount of warmth. Planting of cabbages, cauliflowers, silver beet, chives, garlic, and onions may be continued. Lettuces, onions, early peas, parsley, and broad beans may be sown as soon as the soil ,is fit to work. ■

Onions require rich soil which has been well firmed before the seed is sown.
