THE FIRE BRIGADE

NELSON, July 26.

On the College Ground today the Nelson College second fifteen defeated Takaka -ligh School Old' Boys by 16 points to 10. A strong Old Boys' team defeat-id the College firsts lby 23 points to 8. ',■:'-..

At the Nelson Fire Brigade's annual ball the Mayor, Mr. W. J. M'offatt paid a tr'bute to the Volunteer Fire Brigade's service over a period') of 67 years. The brigade was now under the control of the newly-formed Fire Board, and he hoped the new constitution would result in an even more efficient service to the city. On behalf of the citizens he thanked all volunteer fiisemen, and eulogised the services rendered by Captains Knight,. Mirfin, Sinclair, Dghtfoot, King, Bird, Wimsett, Woodward, Dee, Stewart, and Bennett. Mr. H. E. Duncan spoke on behalf of the business community.
