Mr. Forbes, Mr. Masters, and Sir Thomas Wilford were present at Spitalfields at the first auction of New Zealand apples and pears for several weeks, when within half an hour nine thousand cases, including 3300 of New Zealand fruit, were sold. The auctioneer, at the subsequent luncheon, claimed that the prices justified the policy of cold-storing New Zealand's fruit during the past few weeks of bad prices. New Zealand Granny Smiths fetched 10s Gd to 15s; Doughertys, 10s to 11s 9d; Stunners, 9s to 9.s 6d; Tasmas, 9s 6d; Rome Beauty, 9s. Winter Nelis pears, 14s to 15s; a case of Trays, 3s 6d to 4s.
