. The funeral of the late Mr. E. Wcliipeihana took place at the mania of his people yesterday afternoon. Tho largo number of visitors, both Euro* poaii and Maori, was an evident sign of the deep-respect in which his memory was held. .The officiating clergy wera the Rev. Father Hiordan, Supoj'ipr, oiL. the Southern' Maori Mission district, and his assistant, the Kcv. Father' McSherry, S.M. The choir of the Kukii Church, led by Mrs. T.. Wcliipoihaii.il. daughter-in-law of deceased, saug most plaintively and charmingly the beau-> tiful hymns for the occasion, ■ "'Ho Kainga Takiwa" and "Kia Tata Mai.1'; The service was given in tho Latin language of the Church Bitual, and, tho, sonorous Maori of tho deceased's,own; tongue. At the conclusion of the sei> vice the final prayers wero said ia English. , About 500 attended- the obsequies, including the president, sec« retary, and several' members of tho Otaki Racing Club,-representatives of various sports bodies, and returned soK diors. , .'■■■" ■
