LOWER HUTT STREETS
The unemployed (states "Ratepayer") are cleaning out the channels of various streets of Lower Hutt. After they have been cleaned the council does not have them cleaned foi- months. Why not employ the unemployed to keep the channels clean each week and. pay them extra money from the increase the council will receive from the rates? , There is discrimination in the way various streets are attended to. In Riddiford Street, Wilford Street, Willoughby Street, and Cudby Street there is grass over the shoe tops "and water that has been standing in the channels for months. ,
Referring to the Christina Fraser recently reported missing on the Australian coast, "Sailor's Wife" .urges that this is proof of the necessity for all seagoing ships carrying wireless. "In this enlightened era of wireless shipping is comparatively safe, but men who have the misfortune to be working on a small ship stand a lot less chance in high seas than the .larger vessels."
