MID-WINTER SWIMMEES
50YDS HANDICAP Mid-winter swimmers held their annual 50yds handicap at Te Aro Baths yesterday morning. The entrants were: —N. Barker (9sec), W. Waters (9sec), G. Neal (Bsec), E. Pateman (osec), G. Buchanan (3see), W. Seville (3sec), C. Baynes (Isec), A. Creed (Isec), M. Fielding (lsec), L. Stohr (scr). E. Pateman was first, G. Neal second, and M. Fielding and L. Stohr, dead-heated for third place. The handicapper and starter .was Mr. S. King, and Messrs. P. McLean and V. Jones were the judges. The race' was splendidly handicapped, there being a particularly close and exciting finish, Pateman winning by a touch from Neal, with Fielding and Stohr a foot behind. Fastest time was recorded by Stohr, who swam the distance in 33see. The temperature of the water was oOdeg.
