HAWKE'S BAY MEETING

ACCEPTORS AND PROSPECTS GOOD FIELD IN STEEPLES

Good fields have accepted for all events except the hurdles on. the opening, day of the Huwkc's Bay Jbekejr Club's Winter ' Sleeting at Hastings tomorrow, and the racing should prove full of interest. There is a fair amount of recent form to assist in the solution of most of the problems, but in one or two events there is room for a surprise by horses that have not lately been before the public. The meeting will, be concluded on Saturday. The item of main interest is the June Steeplechase, in which recent : winning iform is well represented among the dozen' \acceptors. Birkbeek and Red Bank were Successful .at Wanganui, and Acervate, ■fcrho was an unlucky third at Wanganui, yvent on to win two minor steeplechases at the recent Auckland Meeting. ' Birkifeeck and Acervate look the best of thia itrio nowy but they will; find a tough one in Luna Lux, who hasyet to be beaten 'over fences. Fine Acre was a winner ■at Hawera. and ho. has evidently recovered from his Wauganni lameness. ' Adveutus, who is- very, well at present,: will be making.his debut at the. game. Altogether tbe issue is extremely open. The only race, for open flat Horses is tl*e Heretaunga Handicap, a six and a half furlongs sprint. Cylinder, topping tine list, is hardly likely to be at his best ■jrcst, and the distance in any case is short for him. Curie, who has won so well at his last couple of starts,' is sure to be one of the main selections, and among the others there will be followings for Slippery, Kkahcxro, Tahoma;.and Xavaho. In the Maiden Plate are many horses ■vfbo have in the past season just missed leaving novice ranks, and the race offers another chance to such as Queen's Diadem, Hunting Star, Tudor, Squeeze, Aube, Bnklman; Sunstead, and Sir Nigel. A candidate whose running will be watched j& Cyclonic, the full-relative to Cylinder, and who will be making his first public appearance. The following horses are? m form and are .'likely to command the Attention of betters: —• Maiden Plate.—Hunting Star, Tudor, nnd Sunrtead. \V3isi.katu Hurdles.—Kimbo and Jilts Hnsf^g*'Coiinthian Plate (gentleman riders).— GoldJßuler and Mon Roi.
