HIDES AND SKINS DEARER.
Values for hides and sheepskins con-' tinue to improve. The market has improved considerably during the past few months and a more active tone'prevails. There was a large offering at the fortnightly sale held by Auckland brokers yesterday, quality. being up to average. A fnll bench of buyers was representative of local tanners and overseas interests. A brisk sale resulted and au almost total clearance was effected. Local buyers took the bulk of the offering, in some cases bidding going beyond exporters' limits. Compared with values at the previous sale hides were 9id to Id a 1b higher. Dried sheepskins were ¥z<\ 'to Id a lb higher and salted sheepskins were about 4d each higher.
