FOR SALE BY AUCTION FALSE PRETENCES ALLEGED

David Eozontal, alias David Boss, I appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court today on two charges ■of obtaining goods valued at £158 18s 2d from Eeginald G. Kain by false pretences. He was also charged with stealing £36 Cs 7d in money, the property of Alfred George Barton. Tho allegations of the police, said Detective-Sergeant Bevell, were that the accused had gone to Kahi's warehouse in Wellington, and on the representation that the goods he was ordering were for a Mr. Kerslake in Masterton he obtained supplies of sheets, towels, pillow cases, and other goods valued at £108. The Detective-Sergeant alleged that the accused had then gone to Auckland, 'where he obtained supplies of goods valued at £50 18s 2d from Kain's Auckland branch by representing that he was Kersla,ko. The accused, alleged Mr. Eevell, liad then visited towns on the East Coast conducting auction- sales and selling the goods he had obtained at rates far below cost. He had mover accounted to Kain for the money. In connection with the theft charge it was alleged that Rozental had obtained goods from Barton to sell on commission, and had not accounted for them. . , After evidence had l>een heard, the accused, who was represented by Mr. C B Barrett, pleaded not «guilty, and ■was' committed to the Supreme Court for trial. - ■
