BUNNYTHORPE SCHOOL
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day. Preparations are well in hand £or the jubilee, of the Bunnythorpe School, which falls due, this year. It was on August 13, 1883, that the original school was opened with an attendance of 33 pupils. This important occasion was marked by the attendance of a number of committeemen, including the first chairman, Mr. G-. A. Jackson. The sole teacher appointed to the new school was Mr. H. Walker, who held the position for some time. Since the opening day no fewer than 1492 pupils have passed through the school, which at one time boasted a roll of 160, with a teaching staff of five. Since then the attendance has declined to about SO owing to removals from the district. About seven or eight years ago a new school was erected on a different site, although the major part of the history of Bunnythorpe School was associated with the old building. Although the actual form of the jubilee celebrations has not yet been determined, it is intended to make the function an allday one, with reunions for ex-pupils. Interest will be added to the celebrations by the fact that five of the original pupils of the school am still resident in. Bnnuythorpe, and will attend the function. j
