New Zealand baconer pigs, 120/160, 5d (sd). New Zealand frozen veal, not quoted. Lamb market: Very firm at improved prices. Consumption continues excellent, with tone of market strong. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes firmer in sympathy with lambs, but trade rather slow. Beef market: Remains quiet with poor demand. New Zealand porker pigs: Dull owing to hot weather. New Zealand baconer pigs: Market quiet and unchanged. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from- their London agents, relating to North Island mutton and lamb, dated June 2:—"Compared with last week's quotations, Down lamb, 28/361b, %d per lb higher; 36/421b, %d per 1b higher.' Crossbred lamb, 28/361b, Ud per lb higher; 36/421b, %d per lb highor. Second quality lamb, l-8d per lb higher. Wethers, under 561b, l-8d per lb higher; 56/641b, 3-8 d per lb higher; 64/721b, V*d per lb higher. Ewea, under 481b, and 64/721b, l-Bcl .per. lb higher; 48/641b, %d per lb higher. The lamb market is strong and active. Prices have advanced each day this week, especially for heavy weights. The market for mutton is firmer." The liquid assets of the Halifax Building Society, Yorkshire—the biggest of its kind in the world—now amount to £23,354,096.
