ROBBERY AT ARMS
MOTORIST HANDS OVER £14 ASSAILANT ESCAPES (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. "Keep quiet and hand over all you've got." This command, coming from a man armed with a weapon resembling a pcarifle, startled Mr. C. Williams, of 10 Aroha Street, as he stepped out of a car in a private garage late on Thursday night. With presence of mind, Mr. Williams attempted to treat the matter as a joke, tut he was soon given to understand that the intruder was in a serious mood. Eecountiug his experience, Mr. Williams said ho realised that discretion would be the better part of valour, and he handed over a small roll of notes containing £14, at the same time giving his assailant to understand that that was all ho had. The latter seemed satisfied, and decamped along Argyle Avenue in the direction of Rangitikei Street. Mr. Williams said he attempted to chase the man, but by the time he got the car out and started tho motor there was no sign bf the robber. Mr. Williams's residence is on the corner of Aroha Street and Argyle Avenue, while the garage, which is gen* erally left open when the car is in use, faces Aroha Street. There was no sign of anyone in the garage as he drove into it with the lights full on on Thursday night, but his assailant could easily have concealed himself behind one of the doors. The robber, who is>described as a tall dark man, waited until Mr. Williams had turned off the car lights and was stepping out of the car before accosting him. Mr. Williams said he had £65 in notes in two rolls in his pockets, but he only handed over the smaller one containing £14.
