THE MAKURA

Although fine to moderate weather ■was experienced by the Makura between San Francisco and Barotonga,

she was not so fortunate after leaving Barotonga. There was a moderate northerly galo on tho afternoon of Stay 25, and it veered to north-west, with heavy seas and a light rain. From. May 26 until yesterday morning there was a light to variablo wind and a heavy confused swell, but yesterday there was a fresh to strong easterly, with a heavy south-cast swell. Continuous drizzling rain fell, and the foggy conditions at the Heads' delayed the vessel's arrival at Wellington. She anchored in the stream at 8.25 a.m., two and a half hours after the scheduled time, and she berthed at 10.4 a.m. at No. 1 south, Queen's Wharf.
