PAINFULLY SLOW

PROGRESS AT GENEVA

MR. DAVIS AND M. DALADIER

(Received May 29, 10 a.m.) LONDON, May 28. The week closed with an atmosphere of pessimism concerning the Disarma-j ment Conference. French opinion in Paris is convinced that there is no chance of reaching an agreement before June 12, and consoles itself with the reflection that there is no real connection between the Disarmament and Economic Conferences. The rate of progress at Geneva is painfully slow. It is understood that Mr. Norman Davis had an interview with M. Daladier today in an effort to secure a modification of the French attitude. A suggestion has been made that the Conference adjourn on June 10 until October. Mr. Dayis is determined to hold the Conference together even if it overlaps tho Economic Conference.
