CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Wellington Caledonian Society was held on Saturday evening, when, despite the bad weather, there were about fifty members present. The chief, Mr. G. Lauchlan, presided. The annual report and balance-sheet, extracts from which have already been published, were read and adopted. Mr. Lauyhlan remarked on..* the progress made by the society in the' past twelve months, and forecasted a still further increase in members during the coming year. The social functions had been well attended, ho sjaid, and tliaiiks were .due to the various speakers at the functions, and to. the assisting artists. He praised the social committee for its work, during the year, especially mentioning the secretary of the social committee. The chief stated that a cup had been presented by Mr. Taylor for competition among the' children under fourteen years o£ age of members of the society. The contest would be for the sailor's hornpipe and Irish jig. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the donor. Officers were elected as follows:—Chief, Mr. G. Lauchlan; secretary, Mr.' M. THE PIPE BAND. The annual meeting of:'the Wellington Caledonian Society's Pipe Baud was held last week, the chief, Mr. G. Lauchlan, presiding. There was a full muster of bandsmen, and much enthusiasm was shown. A pleasant social hour was held at the conclusion of the meeting. Officers were elected as follows:—Pipe band officers: Drum-major, Mr. R. M. Price; pipe-major, Mr. W. Fraser; pipeseigeant, Mr. W. Smith; pipe-corporal, Mr. R. Currie; drum-sergeant, Mr. C. G. Smith; drum-corporal. Mr. W. Median; custodian, Mr. J. .6. McDonald; delegates to Combined Bands' Association, Messrs. C. G. Smith and R. M. Tripe; delegates to pipe band .centre,*' Messrs. Fraser, Tripe, and M. Gray Nasmith.
