NEW COASTER

REPLACING THE BREEZE

A motor vessel of 900 tons is being built by Seotts at Glasgow for the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company. The vessel is being built to replace the Breeze. Captain H. Monro, managing director of the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company, is supervising the construction of the vessel, and it is expected that she will arrive in New Zealand about, the end of th,e year. No name has yet been chosen for the ne,w vessel. The Canterbury Steam Shipping Company's fleet consists of the steamers' Calm, Storm," and Gale, and the New Zealand-built motor vessel Foxton, so the new ship will be the first motor vessel built for the company in the United Kingdom. On December 18, 1931, the Breeze, bound from Wellington for Lyttelton, went ashore at Port Robinson in a thick fog. She was refloated, but subsequent examination proved that she was badly damaged. She was to be sunk by the Navy, but broke away, and went ashore near the Lyttelton Heads, where the remains of her can, still be seen.
