SPECIAL RESOLUTION

President Eoosovelt on Friday decided that tho United States' should go off the gold standard by statute, and requested tho chairman. (Mr. Steagall)' of the House Banking Committee, to introduce a motion placing tho country off the standard by law. Speaking of the motion, Mr. Steagall said:- "It repeals the Gold Standard Act," adding that under the resolution no bonds or obligations of tho United States Government, and no obligations in any form would havo to be paid in gold or gold currency. When the measure was enacted he said that it would bo possible for foreign debtors to pay their war debts to the United States in any legal money. It' would also make it unnecessary to devaluate the gold dollar, under the Farm Belief Act's inflation, provisions.
