UPPER HUTT
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS
The fortnightly meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Couucil was held last night. The Mayor (Mr. A. J. MeCurdy) presided and there wore also present Councillors A. Howell, E. W. Cottle, J. Purvis, G. S. Bates, F. P. Keys, W. Fortune, ; W. Greig, and G. 11. Guthrie. Resulting from a complaint that a merry-go-round in Camp Street was causing a nuisance, it was ■ decided that in future all applications for merry-go-rounds be submitted to the public services committee for approval, it" the borough inspector is not available. In reply to a letter from the council regarding the email farms scheme, the Department of Lands and Survey wrote stating that applications for the farms were being dealt with in order of receipt by a selection committee. Forms i/ application were enclosed. The council decided to reply pointing out, as it did , before, that there were lands suitable for the scheme in the Upper Hutt district. • The request of the Upper Hutt Rugby Club for its share of the gate money at Maidstone .Park: ta.:be' paid monthly, in-., stead' of in. a lump sum at the end of the season was granted. On "the motion o£ Councillor Howell, Councillor Purvis was added to the finance sub-committee, to represent the Westward. "That all matters in connection with maintenance work be referred to the works committee for approval except in urgent cases," and "that immediate action be taken to make the personnel of the local Unemployment -Committee fully representative" were resolutions passed on the motion of Councilor Keys. The local relief workers', organisation and the Returned Soldiers' Association are to be asked to .submit names of representatives, on this '.committee* • Xo infectious ■ diseases were notified in the borough in the' last fortnight.
