ANIMALS IN EGYPT
Arthur Weigall was for many years Inspector-General of .Antiquities under the Egyptian Government, and during his residence: there he had the amusing experiences with animals of which he tells in an amusing little book called "Laura Was My Camel." Important among the animals that aided in his daily work were Laura, a camel for riding in the desert, whose grievance against the world in general, work, and especially man, wa9 even more bitter than is customary with camels; a donkey named Cicero, of an amorous and very certain disposition, on which Mr. "Weigall made his daily rounds among the temples and excavations; Filfil, a horse, for ordinary riding, which he says was demented and obsessed with the desire and determination to fly; Pedfo, a mongrel dog with a strain -.of sheepdog in him that wrought, queer.results; and Basta, who, tho author insists, must have had a pedigree carrying her ancestry back to tho holy cats of Bubastis, who were incarnations of the Goddess Basta (at any rate, she was mystical-minded and sho did strange and impish things that only a supernatural inspiration could have, put her. up to). The author's literary skill and charm and light and humorous touch make this a beguiling book for a dull day or a dull mood.
