THE CALL OF THE WOODS

Ever the woodland voices call Ouc towu-tircd feet to sj'lvau ways. Whore through green vales and treetops tall The wandering wind its Pan-pipes plays j In harmonies that rise and fall Through dusky nights and radiant days. i Down paths where glittering dewdrops swing From grass-blades droop'd round mossy cells, And on the sunny ledges clins Tho gaily-tlntcd pimpernels. We wend our way surrendering ' Ourselves to Nature's soothing spells. Tho dainty harebells wave their heads In soundless rhythm to and fro, j And through the verdure silver threads I Of tiny streamlets lisping flow— A subtle tone of music sheds Its benediction as we go. Tho buzzing insects speed their ways On wings that flash with sunlit fire Aud happy birds their carols.raise The whole day long, nor seem to tire, While Nature's organ softly plays In. autlphona to uirtfland's choir. The sun In golden traceries weaves j New beauty round ua as we thread Our way 'neatli ferns and fluttering Icarcs— A verdant canopy o'erhead; And added charms the mind perceives In cv'ry gladsome step we tread. By winding paths, down shady ways Where grand old trees spread tax and wide, We wander.through glad summer days, Breathing perfume on ev'ry side And listen to Earth's hymu of praise Which sounds from morn till eventide. >"ow wanes the day! The westering sun Ueairis its'adieu to hill anil glade; Athwart the world tho shadows run And all the golden traceries fade. I Mr. Surrott, of Ashoville, North Carolina, learned to read at the age of 80. Since then he has read the Bible through 25 times. He is now 89. An historic German castle has been partially restored to serve as a hostel for hikers. Altogether there are now more than 2000 of these hostels in Germany,
