SWAN SHOT AFTER DARK
At the Magistrate's Court • today, Henry Joseph Shanks was fined £3 for being found unlawfully in pursuit of swan later than one hour after sunset. Ranger Wilson, of the Acclimatisation Society, said that shots were heard at the "Narrows," at Lake Wairarapa, after 9 o'clock at night. Investigations were made, and a ranger found the defendant and some other men on a small island. , They had guns in thenpossession, and also had shooting licences. The ranger said that the object of the regulation was to protect swan, which were very easily shot in tho moonlight.
