On several occasions in the pasti New Zealand cruisers have met that Australian Navy in the Tasinan and; have carried out valuable combined training, but if the' visit .eventuate 4 this, ■ year it will mark the first oecfw sion on which combined exercises-hay« been carried out in New^, Zealaii* waters. The • exercises will probabljf take place in Hauraki Gulf, and it i» hoped that the cruisers Australia an<s Canberra, together with two destroy*; ers, will make the trip across the Taw man. ' In addition to the cruisers Dunedi4 and' Diomede, aircraft from thai, Hobsonville Air Base will take part in the manoeuvres, and, as in the pasfy a mock naval battle will probably bo), held. ' ' ! Providing the' Australian squadrouj makes the ,trip, the warships are al« most certain to call at Auckland, bu.ti it is not known whether provision haa(i been made for visits to southerujl ports. The-Imperial sloops, "Veronica antf. Laburnum, may not take part in thajj exercises, as both arc making ex*' tended, island cruises this year. f
