(Special to the "Evening Post.") CARTEKTON, This Day.: The Wairarapa South County Cpuncil yesterday re-elected Councillor D. McGregor chairman, and the council as ;» whole a finance committee. It tvas decided to hold the monthly: meeting on the last Thursday .in each month. ; -. . ' • ■■■■ ; The Wairarapa Hospital Board' advised that the levy for the current year would be £1691, as against £1099 last year. Th'a increase is mainly accounted for -by the* fact that the board starts the year with a debit balance as compared with a credit balance of £4603 19s 8d at the beginning of last year. The council decided to enter a protest against the increase, expressing the opinion' that every avenue of economy should , have been explored before increasing tha levy on local bodies. . ... Councillor F. Court, the council's' representative on the board, assured the council that the board had spent a good deal of time on the estimates, and not on* penny was being spent where it could ba avoided.
