MAORI NAMES
(To the Editor.) Sir,— Being a descendant of our wonderful Maori race I.cannot allow "A Teacher of English" to even suggest that it were better to pronounce our beautiful soft Maori names in ; the hard manner the average pakeha does and go unchallenged. Kadio broadcasting certainly - "has giyeu prominence to this subject, and I with many others, appreciate the correct prouu'nciation given the Maori names mentioned by your correspondent by our announcer. To give an instance of the manner in which our Maori names are abused:—l was asked, on first coining to Wellington "had'l been to Tce-ti Bay?' Lnter. 1 found the Maori name is Titahi— pronounced Tce-tar-hce, the latter bein,~ much softer; and why not speak correct Maori as well as correct English?—l am, CtC '' QUARTER-CASTE MAORI.
