THE 1936 TOUR

N.Z. ETJGBY PLANS

BUILDING-UP PROCESS

CANADA'S REQUEST

If present intentions arc fulfilled, the New Zealand Rugby football team to visit the Homo couutries in 193(5 will most likely follow the trail of the 1924-5 All Blacks and play somo matches iv Canada on the way back. A proposal to this effect met with approval at a meeting of the Now ZcaI land Rugby Union's Management Com- | mittee last night, when a letter was received from the Rugby Union of Canada seeking information- as to New Zealand's plans. Mention was also made at the meeting of the matter of building up for the big tour, it being mentioned by the ctairmaa when the question of appointing this year's selectors was under notice that the committee had to look a little further ahead than the present season. There would be two more full seasons and part of another season in which to prepare for the 1936 tour, and it was suggested that a start should be inado next year in concentrating on building up for 1936. Those present at last-night's meeting were Messrs. S. S. Dean (chairman), A. C. Kitto, J. G. Eoache, T. A. Fletcher, F. Glasgow, W. J. "Wallace, 11. H. Sterling, IT. S. Lcith, Kingi Talmvi (Maori Advisory Board representative), and A. E. Neilson (secretarj:). The letter from, the Rugby Union of Canada was as follows:—"Our union would like to know when, the All Blacks arc travelling to England. Several of the provincial unions, particularly 8.C., would like to renew acquaintance with yourselves, also to have a few matches. Your 1925 team is still talked about, and did. a great, deal to bring Kugby to a higher standard than ever before. We would indeed like you to arrange your trip, either coming or going, through Canada. "It was planned to have an English team tour Canada this year. Unfortunately hard times have struck us and1 we are unable to. arrange finances. As .soon as conditions improve, we hop's to open negotiations with the Rugby Union again. The tour to Japan a year ago turned out. a great success. The ■players were royally entertained and had some great matches, losing two out' of seven played." ".These chaps are keen," remarked Mr. Deau, "and I think.wo aro under a certain amount of moral obligation to help them along in their game. I suggest that we tell them that we are. going to England in 1936, and that, 'subject to satisfactory financial arrangements being made, wo will endeavour to play somo matches in Canada on our way back." The course suggested was adopted. SELECTORS AND REFEREES. It was decided to ask unions to nominate selectors for the choosing or' teams for this year's inter-Island match. .
