PIONEER CLUB
There was a largo audience of members at the" Pioneer Club last evening, when tho Music Circle held its first meeting for this year; ■■•■■■ Tho speaker was lir. Kobert Parker,! C.M.G., who took as his subject "An Illustrious Eighteenth Century Trio." This trio, he said, consisted of tho com-, posers Bach, Handel, and Scarlatti, who were born in the same year. A brief sketch of the life and 'work of these composers was given and a programme was presented^ to illustrate tho address. Of Scarl^ti'^s composition, "The Spring Flower". ■. was;.sung by Miss Haughton., and "Sonata Studies" were played by Miss Jean McKenzie. Handel works given were "Veidi Prate" and "Lachia," sung by . Miss Molly Atkinson; "Harpsichord Sonata," played by Miss-McKerizie; two piano items,.' '.Theme ..with .Variations in G Major," played by Mr. Kobert Parker and Mrs. Steers; and the songs "Farewell, Ye Lympid Springs," "Let mo Wander Not Unseen, '' and '' Oh, Let' tho Merry Bells Eing Bound," were sung by Miss Haughton. Bach's compositions were rendered as follows: — Piano solos, "Prelude and Fugue in C Sharp Major" and "French Suite in E Major," Miss Jea^ McK,enzie,; vocal solo,-^ My. Heart Ever Faithful," Miss Haughton. ■, '~ Mrs. A. Ginn, who was in the chair, proposed a yery hearty-vote of thanks 1 to Mr. Parker, and this was enthusiastically carried. Supper concluded a very pleasant evening. Among those present were Mrs. J. A. Doctor, Mrs. M. Goodson, Mrs. P. J. Townley, Miss A. Kane, Miss Ella Fair, Mrs. A. S. Pope, Mrs. Heinmann, Mrs.Hay McKenzie, Mrs. McKay, Mrs. Knight, Mrs. F, Boss, Mrs. Gibberd, Mrs. Lundius, Miss H. E. Goodson, Misses Forsyth, Miss Gaudie, Miss E. Ballinger, Mrs. Levy, Mrs. J. L. Garrard/ Mrs. Drayton, Miss E. Crump, Mrs. Myers,. Miss E, York, and Mr. Steers. '
