SENSATIONAL EFFORT]
WAKATIPU SCORES AGAIN
SIX LENGTHS THIS TIME
In winning his second race at his second start, the New Zealand-bred colt, Wakatipu, was responsible for a sensational performance at the* South African. Turf Club's Easter Meeting at Kenilworth on Easter Monday. Drawn No. 1 in the second division sprint, the Holiday Handicap, (for horses of all ages), he was ia front all tho way, and, after toeing- hardly out of a canter at any part, won easing up by six lengths from a field .of eleven. He was the only two-yoar-old. in the first four places, and his time was lmin 16 3-ssec. -Referring ..-to the race, the. "Cape Times" says.:— . . ,' "The outstanding feature —one, might say tho redeeming feature —:O±" the day's racing was undoubtedly the' smashing performance given by tho New Zealand colt, Wakatipu, in the second division sprint. He showed of That good material lie is ma,der when, in the first race of his career, he dead-heated with Gallant Girl 16 days earlier. For that success he went up from C.ll to 7.9, and tho opening offer about him at his latest start was even jnonej'— and it must be admitted that in. this case there 'was justification for the lack of odds. . ' ■ . "It is not at all likely that hig owner (Sir Joseph B. Kobinson) will take uhduo liberties with such a colt, ;but tho New Zealander has only to keep well to be winning in the best handicap class in this country before many moona have come and gone. It can be accepted that he is tho best two-y^ar-old now in South. Africa. His landed cost, including tax, was in the neighbourhood of £300, and, although the importation of more of his type might be. detrimental to' the interesta of our breeders, it would certainly t>e a great boon to racing." ■ ,
