BAROMETER RISING
BETTER WEATHER AHEAD
A gradual improvement in the unpleasant weather of the last few days may be expected as the low pressure area to the east of the Dominion recedes and as an anticyclone advances over the Tasman Sea. The official forecast issued at noon today is for south-westerly to southerly winds which, although moderate to strong in force, will decreaso gradually. Fair to cloudy weather may be expected, with scattered showers at first. A gradual improvement, however, may be expected, and although temperatures will be cool and there will be many frosts tonight, milder conditions will gradually develop. During' the past twenty-four hours the weather for the most part has been fair to cloudy and cold. Showers have fallen at times in most districts, and in places there hits been hail. The south-westerly winds have continued strong in exposed localities, especially in the far north and along th.c east coast, but elsewhere winds have become chiefly light to moderate. Auckland had cold and showery weather yesterday, with a fresh southwesterly wind. Wellington was fortunate in experiencing a fine day during which more , than seven hours of bright sunshino,, were recorded. Conditions in the afternoon, however, became cloudy, and there were some showers during the evening when the southerly freshened. Hail fell in parts of the city. The rainfall at Kelburn amounted to one point only, but 23 points of rain fell in Lower Hutt. The weather in Chi-lstchurch yesterday was mostly dull, although it was; finer in the afternoon.
