EFFECT ON DOMINIONS
EXPANSION CHECKED
MR. AMERY'S ATTACK
(Received May 11, 1.30 p.m.) " LONDON, May 10. Following the Minister, Mr. Leopold Amery. (C.) said that both tho Danish and tho Argentine agreements contradicted tho whole spirit of the Ottawa Agreements. They barred in many .directions any expansion of Imperial 'preference. "Wo were on the verge of solving the problem and sending tho Dominions' chilled beef to Britain," he said. ''Rhodesia was making hopeful experiments in that direction, and there was reason to believe that Australian chilled beef could be brought in good, condition, yet the ■ Argentine agreement would prevent tho development of this trade. "Denmark had .got a minimum quota of our total butter imports compared with a serious diminution of Dominion supplies. Valuable as the Danish trade was, it must be remembered that New . Zealand butter represented £3,000,000 in. freights alone. The Now Zealand shipping trade represented an actual value of £25,000,000. There was no division over the trade agreements which1 were discussed under iui adjournment motion. This was withdrawn.
