A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT

The meteorological forecast is for BO,uth-westerly winds, moderating generally, but still strong in exposed positions. The weather will be mainly fair to fine and cool, but isolated showers are still likely, more especially in the far north and south. ' Tho depression responsible for the recent prolonged spoil of cold wintry conditions, although still very extensive, has decreased iw intensity. Yesterday cold squally southerly weather still prevailed, showers falling in most parts, but in the western districts from Tavanaki southwards it was mainly fair. By this morning tho wind had moderated considerably, and tho weather improved over the greater part of the Dominion, Wellington experienced a ' cold dull day yesterday, with a fresh southerly wind, but only a few drops of rain fell in the morning. Lower Butt had one point. At Auckland yesterday tho weather was cold and equally, with occasional showers, a tstrong south-west wind prevailing. In Chi'istcjiurcb also it was cold and dull yesterday, a high south-west wind, blowing throughout the day. Another cold wintry day was tho lot of Dunedin yesterday, a strong southerly wind being accompanied by in. termittont rain.
