QUALIFIED OFFICERS
Among the passengers to sail by the Bangitata, which leaves Wellington on Friday for London, will bo Commander E. P. Thomas, 8.N., who recently relinquished the command of H.M.A.S. Australia. Commander Thomas, who .was on "]oan" to the Royal Australian.Navy, has been stationed in Australia for the past two years, and in an interview with a "Post" representative he said that ho would be the last commander to be sent out to Australia. The Australian navy, he said, was a comparatively new service, and hitherto, owing to tliere being a lack of senior officers, a certain number of imperial senior officers had been sent out on loan. There were now qualified Australian officers, however, and some of them had already been promoted to commanders. Commander Thomas said ho was very impressed with the great strides that had been made in the training of the personnel of the B.A.N. "I am also impressed with Australians genorally, and deeply regret having to leave the country," he said.
