CENTRE MEETING

MATCH WITH WAIRARAPA

Matters affecting local Association football were dealt with at the meeting of the Wellington Football Association last evening, presided over by Mr. W. B. Hicks. A letter received from Mr. T. Handcoek (secretary of the Wairarapa Association), received lengthy consideration. After remarking on the growth of interest in Association football in the Wairarapa, where four teams have already been formed, Mr. Handcoek requested that a representative team, either senior B or second division, should be from the Wellington district to Masterton on June 3 to play a Wairarapa eleven. Park Oval could be secured, and a speedy reply was requested bo that the Borough Council might be notified. It was decided to reply that a senior B team would certainly be sent. As only five teams have yet entered for the Chatham Cup, with a possibility of two more doing so before the closing date, May 15. this decision should not seriously affect chances for the Cup. The teams entered are:—Hospital, Pfitone, Waterside, Swifts, and Lower Hutt. A request by the Hutt Club for the provision of adequate dressing accommodation at the Bell Reserve was considered in the light of an offer of the ground to the association by the Lower Hutt Borou<?h Council for £10. Letters concerning the provision of dressing sheds and the. widening of the Hutt Recreation Ground by Borne twenty feet are to be sent to the council. :- As all early games last Saturday were cancelled, the application of the Hutt Club for the result of the fifth grade match, Hutt v. Swifts, to be recognised as a championship game, was disallowed. The game will be re-played on Saturday. Petone's request for a floodlight to facilitate training was not granted, as some five teams make use of the Kilbirme Stadium, where the association's two floodlights are installed, for night practice purposes. The following recommendations to the transfer committee were approved:—C. Turner, E. Turner, and E. Mason, Brooklyn to Island Bay; ,7. Guest, Seatoun to Waterside; M. Houston, Boys' Institute to Diamond; R. Reid, Waterside to Nada; W. Wilkes, first A to junior A; H. C. Smith, Lower Hutt to Petone; G. T. Vdams, Diamond to Seatoun; Liddell, Waterside to Stop Out.
