OPTIMISTS' CLUB

At the annual meeting of the Opti-mists-Club of the Wellington V.M.C.A. the following ofiicera were elected for the ensuing year:—Chief optimist, Mr. D. J. Hunter; deputy-chief optimists, Messrs. H. Silver, U. E. Brooker, and F. Stock; club secretary, Mr. W. Christie; sheriff, Mr. D. Gibson; musical optimist, Mr. H. B. Wilson; padre, the Rev. G. Carpenter; group leaders, Messrs, G. Thomas, R. Hal], H. E. Brooker, and D. Gibson; general secretary, Mi-. L. J. Groenberg. Tho ' retiring chief optimist, Mr. W. H. Hindle, was accorded a special vote of thanks. The club unanimously supported the resolution of the Dominion Optimists' Conference recommending active co-operation in the "Big Brother" movement. This "movement," in which a person makes himself responsible to give active aid and advice to a boy who has been convicted of an offece against the Jaw, had already gained many supporters in the club, and many definite instances were quoted in j which such aid had helped a boy to "go; straight." .
