TOWN PLANNING
MEETING OF BOARD
A meeting of the Town Planning Board was held in Wellington yesterday,'under the chairmanship of the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. J. A.. Young). Mr. Young was making his-first appearance at the board meeting, and he received a cordial welcome. On behalf of the board, Mr. S. Blackley assured the Minister that he would have the support and co-operation of members. In acknowledging the welcome, Mr. Young said he fully realised the need for town and legional planning, and it would be his endeavour to make the working of the machinery effective in such a way as to win the co-operation of the. local authorities and the board in their endeavour to improve conditions. 'The Minister reported the resignation of the Town Planner (Mr. J. W. Mawson), and a motion expressing, appreciation of Mr. Mawson's work was carried. A tentative scheme of town planning was submitted for the borough of Timaru, j and the chairman reported he had sub-1 mitted the proposals ta the Crown Law, Office for consideration. ' A committee j was appointed to consider the scheme and j to report to the next meeting of the board. The same committee is to deal with any objections submitted from Timaru when the approved scheme has been submitted.
