UNCOLLECTED RATES
INFORMATION SOUGHT
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "THeEveninß Posfc") PALMERSTON N., This Day. The Manukau County Council advised the Kairanga County (Council at its monthly meeting yesterday, that. it was endeavouring to compile information showing as far as possible the total annual loss sustained by local bodies during the past three years as a result of it being ; fonnd inipossible to collect rates on properties in which the Crown was interested either as mortgagee or owner. ■ Any information that the Kairanga County could supply would be appreciated. The Manukau Council advised that efforts wquld later be made to urge on the Government the desirability of remedying the existing unsatisfactory state of affairs. The county clerk (Mr. N. I. Nielsen) reported that Kairanga was not affected much as yet, but it was becoming noticeable that the mortgagees were in a number of cases Government Departments. Commenting that members could see where the- present system would lead to, the chairman (Councillor D. Collins) moved that Kairanga support the northern county's move.
