GENEVA, May 9. , Unable to discover ah acceptable course of action, the Procedure Committee of the Disarmament' Conference adjourned after strenuous efforts were made to persuade Germany to, abandon tier opposition to standardised armies, which is an essential part of the British plan. ■• ' ,! A Berlin message states that the Minister of War, General you Blomberg, in a statement to the Berlin Press, denies that Germany is wilfully obstructing the Disarmament Conference. He declared that the proposal to impose the French system, of short service militia ignored the interests of the Reich, which could not be expected to switch over from an army with a twelve-year period of service to one with only nine months. The tint*, for dictating to the Reich "was now over. Her attitude would depend on the extent of disarmament by other nations. Germany would come to no decision until that was known.
