RUGBY FOOTBALL

WELLINGTON . UNION

■. As/ there is no likelihood of a representative Rugby football fixture in Wellington on June 3 (King's Birthday), the Wellington Rugby Union's management committee decided last evening that a full round of championship matches be played on that holiday la Saturday).! Where arrangements can be made, some matches may be played in the morning. An explanation was received from the Eastbourne Club regarding the inclusion of G. Spence in their senior team for the opening championship match of the season. Spence had resigned from tha Petone ,Qub prior to the club's annual meeting, and advice had been received that the resignation had been accepted, but there had been an' oversight in not notifying the union of the transfer until some days prior to the start of the competition. The explanation ivas accepted and no further action taken. In view of a misapprehension regarding the eligibility of b6ys for the seventh grade, both the Upper Hutt' and Hutt Clubs suggested that the match between their seventh grade teams should be replayed if it had any bearing on the championship. Upper Hutt had previously lodged a protest against Hutt. ' It' was decided to adopt the suggestion. Eastbourne and Melrose-Selwyn were permitted to withdraw their teams from the fifth grade competition. The following transfers were approved:— W. T. Cooke,'Technical College Old Boys to Oriental; J. E. Hughes, Athletic to Upper Hutt; C. Woods, Moera to'Pet6na; M. Kenny, Porirua to Johnsonville; W. H. Hall, ftoriru^ to Oriental; S. E. Masters,. Victoria University to Miramar; G. Wilkinson, Berhampore to Wellington College Old Boys; E. Foster, Taita to Lowert Hutt; J. 0. G. Healy, Taita to Lower Hutt; W. R. Hart, University to St. Patrick's College- Old Boys; and M. O'Connor, Wellington to Upper Hutt.
