WANGANELLA BUFFETED
DEVIATES FROM COURSE
Heavy weather experienced by the motor-ship Wanganella on the crossing from Sydney delayed her arrival at Wellington by nine hours, and caused slight damage. Some of the- passengers and crew suffered minor injuries and bruises. The Wanganclla left Sydney at 5 p.m. on Friday, and the weather worked up during the voyage. There was a strong south-south-westerly gale, and heavy seas came over the ship's side on the starboard quarter. Part of the rail on the starboard side near the No. 4 hatch was carried away, and a window was blown in. Some of tho deck cargo suffered minor damage. Some damage was dojie to the furniture in the public rooms. The weather was bad on Sunday, and was at its worst on Monday morning. The ship had maintained an average speed of just over sixteen knots until Monday morning, but it was decided at 10.30 a.m. to°deviate from the sot course so as to avoid further buffeting, and the chance of any more damage to the ship. Until 8 p.m. yesterday the Wanganella proceeded on her new course at between three and four knots, iind later she came back into her original course.
